This work evolved out of a long term meditation on Philadelphia’s built environment, throughout the course of renovating a rowhouse from 2012-2024. As the piece grew, I realized I was also thinking about A Pattern Language, the architect Christopher Alexander’s set of parameters (patterns) for a more humane and human-made built environment, published in 1977.
