Early America is an ongoing series of sculptures which takes as its point of departure the artifacts and material culture of late 18th century America. This is a time period that we as a nation romanticize and fixate on, for obvious reasons, but this time period gets particular emphasis in Philadelphia, where I live. As a transplant to Philadelphia, Early America is my ongoing attempt to play with the products of our romanticized past, producing a series of sculptures that live somewhere between art object, museum replica, and the furnishings for a yet-to-be realized living history site.
