Untitled Kinetic Sculpture (After Thomas Blanchard)

This piece was made for Other Selections, an exhibition at Philadelphia's Center for Art in Wood. Local artists were asked to make work in response to objects from the Center's collection of woodturned objects. This piece takes its inspiration from the Blanchard Lathe, a 19th-century machine for duplicating irregular forms such as shoe lasts and gunstocks, making wooden copies from a cast-iron master pattern.
